Dial before you dig!

Our afternoon walk yesterday took us across the buried Forties (oil) Pipeline System which, judging by this sign, is not terrier friendly.

So I asked Gail if she could possibly call 0800 281 279 and explain that her dog had been suddenly overcome by an urge to excavate some earth close to this notice, and check with Ineos FPS that this was OK with them?

I suggested she insist on speaking directly to the Ineos CEO Jim Ratcliffe (incidentally Britain's richest man) as I understand he likes to keep a tight rein on all major decisions in his company.

I was most hurt when all Gail said was: "Bertie, stop being ridiculous".

  1. MOL MOL MOL Bertie I think your question/request was well put and certainly a legit. After all we know our WFT Scientific Advisor wants to be sure to cross all his t's and dot his i's. I think Mr. Rarcliffe would appreciate that you were just trying to follow the rules

Gracious, Bertie lad, that's not the line which had the crack and required repairing earlier this year, is it? Had someone else not obeyed the rules and it resulted in said damage??? If you have pneumatic paws, Gail may be remiss in listening to your request! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    2. It is the very same pipeline. The crack was about 10 miles south of where we were today.

  4. Gail is seriously disregarding the strength of a terrier's paws when digging. If there is an oil leak....it's Gail's fault....just sayin'.

  7. we agree... tunnels and caves have to be egg-sactly at the place we picked... 100 meters to the right or the left is NOT the right place..

  9. Well, if she doesn't call, you cannot be responsible if a pipe or two get split by your shovel like pawnails!!

  10. A very timely post Bertie... today my male human was digging the back garden and didn't listen to the female one about water pipes (as she had fixed a leak there once before) when he discovered the blue water pipe. She told him to hand dig around the pipe, but instead he used a spade and she was inside our big kennel when she heard him say "Oh %$@&" - so Enzo and I got to go for an unexpected car ride so she could buy a connector thingy to fix the pipe. We also knew to keep our mouths shut when she went outside and was told "if you tell me what I have just done it doesn't help". Perhaps we should borrow the "No dig" sign as sometimes he listens to us more than he does to her!
