Braving the northern waters

If you walk a hundred yards west along the track in front of our Torridon cottage you arrive here.

Gail likes to think this place as our own private cove, although strictly speaking the land is part of a neighbour's croft. In any event, the shoreline is accessible to all, man and dog, but almost no-one apart from the locals know about this delightfully secluded beach where sand is exposed only at low tide.

Gosh it's been hot in Torridon for our visit this week. Yes really! So much so that Gail has going down to our beach for a swim every afternoon and cannot understand my reluctance to join her. To humour her yesterday afternoon I bravely ventured into the crashing surf...

And stayed in the treacherous waters of Loch Torridon* for a whole ten seconds before retreating to the safety of the shore and adopting my best 'now I deserve a treat' pose.

*As many of you'll already know by now, Loch Torridon is a sea inlet in NW Scotland.

  1. Bertie....I hear you on the water issues!!
I'd be sitting right there beside you awaiting a treat too.

Mom says she expects Gail has found the most beautiful place in Torridon for a cooling dip.
All the photos have the best scenery but of course your WFT self, especially #2 photo, adds too them.

  5. That is quite the lovely cove you have there, Bertie. We say let Gail do all the swimming she wants and you can tour the beach and check out all the good sniffs.

  10. Isn't it always the same Bertie? Just because our humans want to get all wet from a swim, they think we ought to do the same ! My human is swimming every day, and just 'cos I take a look over the side at her, she thinks I ought to join her. I know I'm a Lab, and they are supposed to love water, but I will not be persuaded - why do I want to get wet? I had a bath last week and don't need another one yet !

    Love,
    Inca xx

  12. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Wow, it looks fabulous! I am SO JEALOUS! I would splash in the water, and then come out and shake on you - then you could be we too, without having to go in! Sound like a plan?
