Lederhosen? NO!!!!!!!!

Gail has noted that we shall be travelling through Germany around the time of Oktoberfest.

She is a little apprehensive about taking me on the train in Germany anyway (according to the Deutsche Bahn website, I am supposed to wear a muzzle*) and she has suggested that perhaps I should put on an outfit to better blend in.

Meanwhile, I am wondering if Gail should be wearing a Dirndl?

She says not, but that a large beer might yet be necessary...
*Gail says - I am told that it is unlikely in practice that Bertie will be required to be muzzled, but I should carry one just in case. So I am trying to get Bertie get comfortable with the concept of 'ein Maulkorb' by having him wear one at home for short stints, accompanied by plentiful treats. If any readers have experience of taking dogs on trains in Germany, I'd love to hear about it.

Crikey Bertie - there is potential for double embarassment here; I pray for you that it proves to be a theory rather than a practice! A large witbier sounds like a good plan though... hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  2. my dad had such lederhosen as he was a boy, he said they are indestructible and you have them forever... oh I hope not, huh? DB is mostly nice to fourlegged passengers and you haven't to wear that muzzler the whole time, the most pups wear it like a necklace, ready to put it on if a passenger around you has a dog-o-phobia or is just a stinky peep who dislikes dogs...

  6. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Bertie I'm so sorry I tried not to MOL at your photo but good buddy OMCs...all I can say is bravo to you for your sportsmanship. Muzzle you say WOW I was watching a vet show last night. They had to put a muzzle on a G Shepherd who was in pain. I'm sure practicing a home will be a very good idea. Ummmm wonder if they make muzzle for short snouts like mine or a pug or such?
If Gail wears a dirndl PLEASE get a photo.
    Hugs madi your bff

  7. Ohhhhhhhhh whew thank goodness I just saw Gail's comment to Leah. Whew. I would expect getting that on you will be harder than a muzzle.

    1. I'm not exactly sure what she means by this, but Gail says she is "entirely the wrong shape for a Dirndl outfit"...

  8. SHE lived in Germany years and years ago. Actually, lederhosen were worn all the time. Dogs went everywhere, were allowed in restaurants, hotels....so civilised. Although, people had to have licenses to have dogs, and there were none wondering the streets or having litters. Don't know if anything has changed. Bertie, be ready for a fawning public.

  11. Wow, I think you'd look even better than that model dog in lederhosen, but I don't blame you for not wanting to wear it!

  12. Bertie, You will have such adventures out in the world. You will be able to write a book! I hope you won't have to wear a muzzle, but if you do I am sure Gail will be super gentle and you'll get lots of love and treats. You are amazing!

  14. With DB better follow the rules to the letter and get your tickets before you go - the DB online system is a nightmare.

    1. Even more of a nightmare if you are planning to travel with a dog. But the lady I spoke to on their UK phone line for at least an hour was in fact very helpful and answered my many questions in full. Of course even she could not tell me if I would be sitting next to a dog-hating passenger who would insist on Bertie wesring his muzzle throughout the journey!
      Cheers, Gail.

  15. Muzzle ~ Bertie not good! Maybe that is why Lee's ancestors left the Alsace Lorraine Baden area, they wanted to muzzle them also. Just wear the lederhosen and tell them you are a hairy small person.
    Thanks for being a friend

  16. Of course we knew that was a picture off the Internet Bertie, that dog isn't anywhere nearly as handsome as you are. How exciting to be going all that way on a train and then climb some mountains. What experiences you'll have to tell us about when you return.
