Noisy Koreans and EU Bureaucracy

If, like me, you live with a human who goes out to work at a 'regular' job, you'll know how delightful it is when said human comes home early, unexpectedly.

Oh those magic words: "Bertie, I'm working at home this afternoon, please make room on the sofa".

It seems that Gail had been tasked with deciphering an impenetrable European Union tender document, concerning a topic somewhat outside her area of expertise, and her office was swamped with noisy Korean visitors energetically debating 'issues' relating to the execution of a different project, so she had come home for some peace and quiet.

I thought maybe I could help her translate the EU-ese into plain English.

I looked closely at the document, …

… told Gail it could be summarised in the simple word 'gobbledygook', and continued my nap.

Two hours later, Gail sighs heavily and says: "Bertie, you were right". Then: "Come on, we'd better go out for some fresh air before I start coming over all Nigel Farage".

  4. Bertie I hear ya. EU-esian is hard to understand, not even those who write letters in that language know what it means. I suggest drawings, that's a language all can understand... except its drawed by that guy named Pawcasso :o)

Crikey - sounds like you got Gail outta there in the Nig..er Nick of time!!! I'd feel sorry for her except that I find all such documents the world over have a common language and you figured it out right away!

Now about your new banner - I am concerned, Bertie lad, that you appear to have rather more decoration on you than the tree!!! Could that be a result of imbibement of the third item??? Just askin' &*> Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  18. Hope they were South Koreans. Otherwise the words 'executing a project' take on a different meaning.

Bertie - EU documents are great for shredding.

  20. Long time, no getting mama to crack open the yaptop. We've missed you and are glad to see you looking so beautifully groomed. Bet Jed could match you in the pile of excess furs, if mama groomed him. The entry reminds mama of when she worked for the federal government in a social services agency [ok, SSA] and, as a history major with a law degree who could barely balance her checkbook, was given the task of formulating and submitting the division budget for a couple of years. She still hasn't recovered.

We're hanging in here. Jed had a malignant growth removed from his bum a couple of months ago. Most recent check up was still clear. Mama continues to deteriorate. In addition to her wonky right shoulder and R.A. in her right hand, she now has something we understand originated in Scotland that is making her left hand pretty useless: Gamekeeper's Thumb. She's supposed to wear this stupid brace all the time, but can't do anything at all with it on. So she takes it off all the time so she can take care of us. Good mama.

Hope you have a Happy Christmas! Are you travelling?

  21. Bertie, brilliant interpretation. If only mum had listened to you, you'd have saved her an hour or two of hobbliygoop.
