Acquiring a taste for luxury

On the way down to see Human Granny in Nottingham, we stayed one night at a hotel in the quaint town of Appleby in Westmorland.

I convinced Gail one should be allowed to sleep on the bed in any place that charges a £15 'dog supplement'..,

[I am sure my Westie friends will appreciate that in the above picture, I am not dirty, just a different shade of white to the sheets].

Come Sunday evening in Nottingham, Gail and Human Granny enjoyed watching Germany beat Argentina in the World Cup Final, but I was more equivocal about game's appeal.

PS from Gail: Keen eyed readers will have spotted the subtitles on the TV. The live transcription of the commentary is a great service for deaf viewers like my mother, and the shortcomings of the BBC's technology can make for some entertaining versions of foreign names. I am still smiling at 'Jo Cain Lurve', the German team manager!

  1. I know all bout da different shades of white. Nuffin makes a westie look dirtier than fresh snow.

  4. Jo Cain, huh....BOL!

SHE immediately looked with horror at you lounging on white linen. We'd have to have a room with brown sheets.

  5. Oh these pictures are the cutest! I agree Bertie that you belong on that bed and your furs look white to us! As for the subtitles on the tv we sometimes turn them on and notice similar issues with certain movies and shows here in the US

  6. What a great job convincing Gail to let you sleep in the bed. Hope it was a good night's sleep whether the sheets made you look dirty which we know you aren't :-)

    1. They did supply treats, plus a tennis ball, a water bowl, some poop bags and a map of local walks. Even better, I was allowed in the bar to sit with Gail while she ate her evening meal (and I was VERY well behaved).

  15. What a fantastic stay! And you definitely deserve to sleep in the bed. If you gotta pay to stay, you're entitled to all the comforts that go along with it!

  17. Hi Bertie, catching up (again) We got banned from the living room whilst TND watched 'the games' so we looked a lot sadder than you do. Your hotel room looked very nice Bertie! I is a firm believer in being on beds and just furniture in general. I followed a wft on a walk and Mum wanted to ask if we could take a photo but strangely the human man walking 'the Bertie' seemed to have acquired a wooden sign from the football field they'd just come out of so Mum chickened out of asking.

  18. Ha! No dog should ever be as white as the sheets. It would appear to diminish your stature just because you're lounging and that is just not acceptable!!! Mom said a hotel brought my brother his own bed once and he said "clearlly that porter is not a dog person" and then proceeded to hop on the human bed where he so rightly belonged !
