Duthie Park Dog Walkers Dinner

You'll never guess what I spotted on Gail's calendar this morning.

Yes that's right.

17th January: Duthie Dames Dog Walkers' Dinner

So of course I bounced up to Gail to reassure her that I was available to attend, was looking forward to it, nothing else in my diary that particular night, where were we going etc. and suddenly she started acting all evasive.

It's OK, I said, I'm not a fussy eater, and neither are my pals in the Park, some of us even relish sheep poo, I'm sure we don't mind if it's not somewhere frightfully posh.

It's so easy to tell when your human is uncomfortable isn't it?

Turns out that this Dog Walkers' Dinner is going to be a dog-free occasion.

Well that doesn't make any kind of sense at all, does it?

I mean, for a start, I strongly suspect that few of those who are invited even know each other's names. Will there be little place cards saying "Jake's Mum", "Frankie's Mum" and "Marcelle's Mum', together with a photo of the relevant hound perhaps? How else will the ladies recognise each other when without their distinctive canine companions and divested of their Michelin Man style winter dog walking attire? What can they talk about if us pups are not present to break the ice with our bottom sniffing antics?

Apparently this ill-conceived event will take place at Pizza Express on Belmont Street. Fellow diners that evening will surely recognise the motley crew with the dog hairs on their trousers and the ready supply of pooh bags bulging out of every pocket...

  1. A highly inappropriate gathering. Dog moms sans dogs? And pizza as well? There better be some pizza bones in it for you at the least.

  3. Bertie, this does not seem at all right - really, a dog free dinner for peeps who met while out with the likes of you? It hardly seems fair. She doesn't know many people's names - She always refers to them as 'Joe's owner' or 'you know, that wonderful little beagle we always meet - yes, well, his owner'. But don't worry, I'm sure you will get loads of mentions during the evening and pizza - well, it's not that nice to eat anyway (I tried it once - never again!).

  4. Oh Bertie not right, not right at all. We suggest all the dogs have their own event with lots of foodables. Have a fabulous Friday.
    Best wishes Molly

  5. How can that possibly be Bertie? A dog walking dinner without dogs? Something seems mighty fishy to me. Well at least I hope Gail enjoys her kibble.

  6. Hey Bertie!
Wow, this is proof that peeps can't get much right without our help! How in the world can you do a dog event without a dog?!? Weird. Well, at a minimum, I hope you score some delish pizza bones!

  8. Bertie you are so wise and the humans so unwise. Exactly how will they know each other without the pups. How can they have fun w/o you all? Just plain silly I think and they should be a shamed of themselves. I'm certain Gail will come home with a most bored and glassy-eyed expression after a night w/o you.

  11. Well this is just soooooooo typical of THEM. THEY are so.. exclusionary aren't they. Ernie and I suspect it is beclaws when WE are not there to watch over THEM... THEY spend their time ATTEMPTING to Learn how to Sniff each other.. and dining of a VARIETY of Poo.
    THAT is what WE think.

  12. What a bizarre idea! Why would humans even WANT to meet without their pups around?!

  13. I hope the Dames use some of their plastic bags as "Doggie Bags" so that you can enjoy any leftovers at a "doggie pizza picnic in the park" the next day with your friends.

  15. Surely Gail has a LARGE pin or badge with your photo on it that she can put on her lapel to wear to the dinner, so the others can identify her? And they do call their club the Duthie DAMES Dog Walkers; you are certainly not a dame, young Bertie. Besides, you've just scored huge guilt points on Gail, which you can bank until you're ready to spend them on something you really want.

  16. While we do love the title of the club, we agree how can they meet without the dogs? and how will anyone recognize anyone else without their canine appendages? The pin idea is a good one and make sure you get some treats when she gets back

  18. Bertie, leave it to the humans to come up with a dog event, where dogs are not allowed. I hope they all have a dreadful time. How much fun could it be without you there? None I say. I hope you enjoy yourself at home.
