If only Human Grandad had four legs

It has come to my attention that there are pros and cons with the human set-up of walking on just two legs.

This arrangement seems all well and good in the middle years, when humans can generally balance quite well. It frees up their arms to make bows and arrows, shop for dog food and use computers.

However, the human young 'uns and oldies do often seem rather wobbly.

My human Grandad (HGD), aged ninety, is a case in point. These days he quite often topples over when out and about. Normally he avoids harm, brushes himself down and says to any concerned passers by "It's OK thanks, I'm fine, I know how to fall, I used to play rugby". Sadly, last Sunday HGD's luck ran out and he stumbled over a kerb and hurt his face quite badly. He is now in hospital.

Oh if only HGD had four legs like me. It's so much easier to stay upright. The downside, of course, is that without arms one needs a human secretary to assist with one's blog.

Well I'm sure my readers will understand that Gail must go down to Nottingham to help her father get back on his feet. So I'm afraid that this blog will be quiet for a few days.

Don't worry about me though. I am being cared for in Aberdeen by my lovely friend Marie-Thérèse.

Although I will admit to being totally gutted at missing out on Jazzi's National Taco Day celebration this year.

Granted, it would have been hard to improve on last year's Aberdeen MacTaco feast...

  11. Oh goodness! We are so sorry to hear about HGD. That is just terrible. We hope that he will be alright and back on his two legs real soon. Our HGD took a dive a few weeks ago also. He was a real mess by the time the neighbors helped him home. But like your HGD, they brush it off like it's nothing.

    Hugs,

  20. Sorry to hear about Grandad's fall. Does he use a walker when he goes out and about? That has four legs on it that could help him to balance. Lots of older folks use them here.

Thank you for the birthday wishes despite your comment about me lecturing you lads over there. You and Ludo both need it!

    Cheers,
    Stella (and Jo)

  28. Best wishes to HGD for a speedy recovery! My 92-year-old HGM also has fallen recently, although she didn't have to go into the hospital, fortunately. It's quite worrisome when the humans get older and wobbly, isn't it? Although I'm getting a bit that way myself!

  29. Oh gosh, I am sorry to hear about your granddad. I hope he is back on his feet soon. My human granddad had a similar fall about 4 months ago. It's pretty scary stuff!

By the way at 15, I sometimes stumble myself - the back legs aren't what they used to be.

    Your pal, Pip
