Whale watching is rubbish (+ keep voting!)

First, I want to thank you all so much for your amazing response to my readers' poll (see previous post). The vote closes on Sunday, so if you haven't yet selected Addy's Valentine vehicle, don't forget to do so in the next couple of days. I really appreciate your help with this tough decision!

Well what else have I been up to?

There was great excitement in this household at the weekend when one of Gail's friends called to say that humpback whales had been sighted off the village of Collieston several times in the last few days. A most unusual occurrence, and apparently of great interest to humans....

Well, we drove the 15 miles north up the coast from Aberdeen to Collieston and this is what we saw:

And this is what we hoped to see but didn't.

So I have decided that whale watching is a greatly overrated pastime anyway.

From the canine perspective it's all "no Bertie no, don't jump all over the little children you'll frighten them, no Bertie you can't run off down the cliff path and explore the village all on your own, Bertie you must stay here where I can see you're not getting into any trouble, no I don't want to go down to the beach just so you can roll in some decomposing fish, OH BERTIE NO, sigh, I'm going to have to put you back on the lead, Bertie please stop barking no-one wants to listen to a noisy dog, no Bertie we are not going anywhere just yet, those whales might show up any minute now..."

Tedious or what?

Oh, I have been instructed to tell you that we did also have a very pleasant walk in the nearby Sands of Forvie nature reserve the same afternoon, and also told that I would do well to display more gratitude once in a while...

  2. Hi Bertie,

I think "Bertie watching" is a much more interesting past time, especially when there is food involved! From Gail's comments it seems she spent most of her time watching you too.

  3. Actually, Bertie, seeing a whale is quite a thrill for a human - or so we've been told. But we've hardly ever been told "no". We've always been extremely well behaved. (BOL!!!)

  4. Never trust a whale Bertie - they are terrible teases. And I do urge you to go to the party in the tank, whatever the result. Everyone will be in a limo - which looks like a hearse, a smart car is just silly. The Audi - well you know what they say about men with big cars... the bicycle will make you look cheap and the flying carpet like you are on drugs. The ambulance is tempting fate and the cargo vessel is overkill. Deccy x

  5. SHE's gone whale watching several times....never saw one. You should have just gone for a walk in the town. Looks like a great place for investigating.

We think you should start your study of Climate Change again. We're having a cold, wet summer and lots of winter bloggers are reporting warm weather and no snow.

  6. Bertie - Was there a pub in the village ? It looks like the sort of place where a pub would sell pork scratchings .

No Appreciation!!! She is lucky you didn't poop on her shoe.

  11. My momma went whale watching one time. But I had to stay home, so I think it must be pretty boring since I wasn't around!

  12. My peeps saw big whales on a "whale watching boat" in Hervey Bay - Queensland -they loved it. That was before me, so that was OK. Now they like to watch me for a thrill!!

Rolling in decomposing fish would be more exciting that watching nothing in the waters there Bertie!!

  14. Sounds like it's more the no-whale watching that is a drag. Bet you would have been more excited if some actual whales had shown up. But we agree that standing around while the humans lavish unjustified criticism on perfectly normal canine behavior is a real downer. Turn about is fair play, says we.

We already voted. Do you want us to vote more than once?

  15. We cannot understand why the humans would want to see a whale! Especially when they have you to entertain them Bertie.
You know that word 'no' is one of the reasons we dogs are glad we don't have language.
These humans can ruin many a good time with their 'no'!
Of course Bertie, we expect that you will learn to turn a deaf ear.
There is such fun to be had, we epecially relished the thought of rolling in a decomposing fish....wonderful!
We will go vote in your poll as we dont think you had an offical poll the last time we dropped by.
    Have a good weekend.
    love

  18. Ergh bertie, i so feel your pain, it sounds a lot like squirrel and bird watching.
Hm, my GR is showing the magic carpet post but when I came to comment it said it wasn't there, but I think your solar panels will be very helpful.

  19. hey Bertie,

Sorry I have not been around in a while, but you sure have been busy! First off, Addy is a beauty! Lucky pup! :->

Second, I voted for the bicycle! My human said a bicycle built for two is very romantic. Fresh air, exercise, and being together! But whatever mode of transportation wins, I am sure you will make it very wonderful for Addy!

Third, I think the word "no" needs to be banished. I hear the "No" word way too much as well. And yet I am told I am a "good boy" all the time. Talk about confusing!

Looks like you had a grand adventure! I am sorry you did not see a whale. I think that would be incredibly pawsome!

Hope your eye infection is gone!
