"More irritating than the midges"

Yes. I know you won't believe it, but that's how Gail's friend Michael described me last night.

You will want to hear my side of the story, I'm sure.

You know how exciting it is when you have visitors. This week Michael and his two grandsons are here in Aberdeen for a wee holiday. I was instantly attracted to Michael. He's one of those humans who insists on wearing shorts and sandals all the time in the summer, even in Scotland! It's rare I get the opportunity to lick so much exposed human flesh. Irresistible.

Surely, he should find it flattering that I pay him so much attention? But apparently not.

And worse.

We all went out for a hillwalk yesterday.

Once we escaped the midges in the trees at the bottom, we were having a fantastic time. Well at least until we reached the summit.

Michael and the boys climbed up the rocks to the very top to eat their lunch.

And Gail totally refused to lift me up the big rock to join them

It seems that Michael and the boys are too selfish to share their picnic.

I can tell you, when we came to some more rocks, Michael was VERY LUCKY I did not push him off....

And bearing in mind what he said about me and midges later, I wish I had!

(Gail says I should be grateful to be taken on such interesting outings, and need to learn that not all humans are fond of having their legs licked and their sandwiches nicked. But that can't be right, surely?)

  4. Bertie- how RUDE!!! He should have been glad you were keeping his legs clean and cool for him :)
And how did they expect you to hike all the way back without the sustenance of a few nicked sandwiches??

  7. Seems to me you are getting the short end of the stick there, buddy. Especially not getting hoisted on to the rock. What does your Gail think her job is anyway?

  8. I'm shocked, Bertie! These are friends Gail should dump immediately before they do any harm to your dainty psyche! On the other hand, it is not smart to lick outdoors people's legs, often they put midge killer lotion on which is poisonous and could make a little lad like you quite sick.

So, pick and choose little lad, what will it be?

    Kisses,
    Stella

  9. The nerve of some people, Bertie. Our uncle, Mom's brother, is like Gail's friend. He was here a couple of weeks ago and spent the entire time telling us to GO AWAY!! Hey, he's staying at our house, right?? It's not like when we were puppies and we chewed up his new walking shoe. Sheesh. At least your hike looked quite lovely, though the boys looked quite un-amused...

  13. I'm surprised that they didn't reward your thoughtful "midge repellant dog slobber" efforts with food. Surely, from all your enthusiastic licking, they should have guessed that you were hungry!

  14. Oh Bertie I thinks the Gail is WRONG in this case. Surely she knows that licking hooman skin is a greeting and a way of sayin Hey, I kinda likes you, you might taste good in a stew or bbq'd or, what Mom gee. Anyway I think they should have at least given you a half of a sandwich you climbed all the way with them and led them safely, and no nomm? What is wrong with them????

Oh yea, ya shoulda pushed him!

  16. Unfair! Bertie, we're with you....definitely on the picnic thing. We get hungry hiking, too. We say, he was the only fly in the ointment!

  17. We are unanimous in not much liking Michael and are TOTALLY on your side on the question of licking bare legs. However, Stella does raise a valid point worthy of your consideration. We are not unanimous on whether Michael was under any obligation to feed you. While it would, of course, have been both the courteous and natural-if-one-is-a-decent-human-being thing to do, it is Abby's position that the only one with a legal obligation to feed you is Gail. So Gail should absolutely have packed you a picnic snack to share during the communal meal. However, Abby does accept as valid Gail's refusal to lift you up on the rocks, on the grounds that Gail was concerned for your personal safety. So Gail gets 5 out of 10 for this excursion, and Michael gets 0 out of 10.

  18. What a nerve!
Obviously Michael prefers to be bitten by midges than be washed by you! Some hoomans sure are strange!

  19. I'm on YOUR side Bertie - always.

But I suppose it WAS a lovely walk to be taken on. Sometimes you just have to accept people for the strange beings they are. If they want to miss out on licks and sharing their food it's THEIR loss.

    Love and licks, Winnie

  20. hey Bertie,

Ouch! Good thing he said that after you could have "accidentally" knocked him off the rocks! Believe me, Bertie, you are much too adorable and fluffy and clever and smart to be a midge. So, not to worry! We love you!

The pictures are pawsome! And Michael's grandsons look like lovely boys. What a grand adventure it must have been! But what is up with no food sharing?! Geesch! First the insult, then no food. So not cool.

I think since Michael was so averse to your lovely canine licks of love to his legs, then you should have just relieved yourself on his leg. BOL!
