Released!

Happy to be out of jail and enjoying a nice long Easter Monday walk.

I am gratified to be able to report that Gail had a very red face when she finally came to pick me up and take me home from prison 'those nice boarding kennels'.  She did keep insisting that the new skin colour was due to sunburn, but you and I know that it was without doubt a result of the deep embarrassment she was feeling at having so heartlessly abandoned me to go cycling with her London pals for a week.

Now please look carefully at these photos of Gail's bicycle (the red one - to match her face) in France.

Memorial to five times winner of Tour de France, Jacques Anquetil

World War I military cemetery (Hem Farm)

I am quite certain that, like me, you have been struck by just one thought.

Lightly laden is it not?  (The bicycle, that is.)

Space on there for a 7.7 kg / 17 lb wire-haired fox terrier, surely?

Oh. I have just seen one more picture from the trip, depicting the unfortunate outcome of a bicycle on bicycle collision. Well. Perhaps I was better off in Scotland after all...

PS Thank you friends for all the valuable information you provided in your comments to my previous post. My not-to-be-missed lecture on gravity will take place some time next week.

  1. Well Bertie, we hope you're rationing your cuddles in order to get extra treats after being abandoned for a week, why not suggest a little pull along buggy that bikes have, you'd look great in one of those! Dex & Louis x

  5. hey Bertie,

Yay! So furry happy to see you are back and free! And what a gorgeous spot for an Easter Monday walk! You look very pretty, so I guess prison treated you well (which does not excuse being locked away in there!).

I think you are correct in your assessment of your mom's red face, so make sure to milk the guilt as long as you can. :->

  11. Did they feed you in prison or were you forced to catch and eat insects and mice?

What was the matron like? They are usually cruel.

You survived it Bertie, thats the best thing! Next time, just arrange for a sleepover with one of your pals!

    Cheers and hugs,

    Stella

What did that prison do to you!!
I know the St Georges flag has a bad press being associated with football, but it was St Georges Day when Eric put his post on!! and I thought that needed pointing out ;)

  19. Abby is, of course, not a member of the British Bar, but the UK used to have really strict quarantine laws. Even with the Chunnel and the 'pet passports' mentioned by Wilf, is it possible that if Gail had taken you to France, you would have been at risk of having to serve a LONG term in durance vile at a quarantine facility? So maybe Gail was actually looking out for your long term best interests?

What you need to do, young Bertie, is cultivate a doting 'aunt' [like our Aunt Janet who lives next door] with whom you can crash on those occassions when Gail has to leave you. What's wanted is a cuddly person who will spoil you rotten so you won't feel 'abandoned' while Gail is gone. Start screening the friends & neighbors.
